10 Famous Music Quotes to Help Get You Out of A Rut
If you’re like most, you have a hard time keeping that motivation meter at a good level. Of course, not having motivation every second is completely normal.
But every once in a while, you might find yourself wanting a little bit of a motivational boost. Which is something the power of music quotes can give you at a moment’s notice.
“Every track starts with a single, strong idea” — Hannes Bieger
You can’t paint a beautiful portrait without a strong foundation to build off of. Music, in a sense, is the exact same; you can’t expect to make something that sounds amazing without an idea to go off of.
It also doesn’t hurt if the idea you have in mind is one you genuinely believe in.
“Less is more” — Rone
Don’t make something more complicated than it needs to be.
“I’ve spent my life trying to make things simpler. Because I find ultimately that complicated doesn’t reach the heart.” — Hans Zimmer
When you want your ideas to be consumed more easily, one of the best ways to do so is to make it simpler. Simplicity is something everybody can get behind.
“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.” — David Bowie
This is my personal favorite because of the truth behind it. If you’re only in your comfort zone and don’t try to do things outside it, you’re going to find it difficult to grow.
It’ll also make the music feel less fun and satisfying and could take away that feeling of accomplishment.
“When you make music or write or create, it’s really your job to have mind-blowing, irresponsible, condomless sex with whatever idea it is you’re writing about at the time. ” ― Lady Gaga
Although I wouldn’t personally phrase it the way she did, the message is pretty hard to deny.
“All of us who do creative work (in this case, making music), we get into it because we have good taste. (You got into making music probably because you wanted to make the music that you loved, didn’t you?) But there is this gap. For the first couple years, you make stuff, it’s just not that good. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions.“ — Ira Glass
If you’re human and make music, then there’s a good chance that when you start, your music won’t sound good. Something every musician goes through that can only be surpassed with continuous practice and determination.
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. — Scott R. Adams
You’re human, humans make mistakes, but not all those mistakes are bad.
Master your instrument. Master the music. And then forget all that bullshit and just play — charlie parker
Music, at its base level, is the emotion the person making or playing it is trying to convey. Don’t always get lost in the numbers and techniques; sit back, listen, and create.
For every hour of recording, have two hours of laughter in the studio— Quincy Jones
You got into music because you have a genuine love for it and find its creation fun and engaging.
Yes, some aspects of music can be a drag, but that doesn’t mean you should forget to have fun every once in a while. Let go of all the rules, put caution to the wind, and let your computer have it.
“Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong” (Anonymous)
There are many different ways you can interpret this for many different arts.
Yet, something I take away is that you shouldn’t settle for good enough and instead reach for as high as possible and then find a way to surpass that too.
